Despite reports of the genre being “dead,” R&B songs have thrived in 2020, serving as a home for new stars and experimental artists, each helping to push the conventions of the sound forward. Mainstays like Ty Dolla $ign, Kehlani, dvsn and Jhené Aiko all released quality R&B music. Veterans such as Alicia Keys, The-Dream and Brandy returned to the limelight with solid offerings, while budding stars such as Chloe x Halle, Snoh Aalegra and Pink Sweat$ flashed their potential to dictate the future of R&B music all the same.
