Devizes school boy's £10k Covid party fine thrown out by judge

It was the first one issued in lockdown by Wiltshire police. The 18-year-old was fined after a school leaving party he had for a few friends got out of control with gate crashers last September. At the case management hearing at Swindon Magistrates yesterday the district judge dismissed the case against the teenager, now studying for an arts degree in Scotland. The family say that a dark cloud has lifted and that they are hugely relieved that it has all gone away. The boy s father Martin told the Gazette and Herald: The judge dismissed the case as the police had not followed proper procedure. The judge additionally ordered that our son’s costs be paid.

A police officer in Devizes The Devizes Neighbourhood team will meet (virtually) on Wednesday February 10 to discuss any gripes or problems within the town. Officers and Police Community Support Officer (PCSOs) will be on hand to answer any questions from the public. Naval shell on Pewsey farm was found five years ago

A WILTSHIRE farmer has told how he kept an old 1950s naval shell for five years before deciding to report it to police. Officers from Devizes called in army explosive experts on Friday after farmer James Read told them about the four-inch shell. Mr Read, 42, of Church Farm, Stanton St Bernard, said: It has been about a while. We found it about five years ago while we were cultivating land. It was left outside one of the barns on the farm and it was only when a friend in the Royal Air Force saw it and suggested it might be live that I decided to do something about it.
