The Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks and the Brighton Bulldogs linked up in their seemingly annual playoff battle at the USA Hockey Arena on Saturday night, and for the third straight year it was the Shamrocks who came out on top and claimed the Division 1 state championship with a 2-0 win.
The No. 4-ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Eaglets led from start to finish, knocking off the No. 9 Novi Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks 70-56 Tuesday night.
For the majority of Wednesday’s showdown at ‘The Elm’ between the leaders of the Catholic League’s Central Division, the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks played like the defending champs that they are, carrying play to league newcomer Toledo St. John’s Jesuit. It was the other couple of minutes of game time particularly in the final two minutes that proved problematic, and may have cost the Shamrocks a chance at remaining the champs, with a 2-1 loss.
