According to investigators, the victim happened to be outside of his car, standing by the trunk. It looked like he was removing something when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver who hit him took off. It happened about 1 20 this morning. The victim, a 60yearold man, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Either the victim or witnesses gave the nypd a description of the suspects vehicle, and quite quickly cops tracked down and spotted that damaged car you see there on the Upper West Side in the 70s and west end avenue. There were two men who were in that car. They were taken into custody and were waiting to find out what charges they face. The trains data recorder indicates the engineer slammed on the brakes but it was too late. The train was traveling at 106 Miles Per Hour when it hit the sharp curve. The speed limit is 50 Miles Per Hour. The engineer has been identified but its unclear if hes cooperating with investigators. At least seven people were killed, many more than 200 others were injured. Rail service along the new york corridor is suspended forcing thousands t seek alternate transportation.
