Derek Seekings was handed an 11-year prison sentence on Wednesday afternoon after being convicted of two counts of rape. The 66-year-old inflicted “severe psychological harm” on his victim, Lewes Crown Court heard. In a statement read out at Lewes Crown Court, the woman described the impact the attacks had on her. She said: “I am nervous of phone numbers I do not know or when someone is unexpectedly at the door.”

On a second occasion he raped the same woman once again as she protested
The victim said she had been left suicidal, fearful and stressed from the trauma

Derek Winston Seekings, 66, was found guilty of two counts of rape between 1994 and 2000 following a four-day trial at Brighton Magistrates’ Court. Seekings, who was still serving as an officer when the rapes occurred before retiring in 2005, will be sentenced on Wednesday (January 13). One of the offences took place during his meal break while he was on duty, with the other taking place off duty.

An ex-police sergeant on trial accused of raping a woman while on duty has denied the offence.
Derek Seekings is accused of assaulting a woman while on a break from his work as a police officer, and on one other occasion.
He faces two accusations of rape dating between 1994 and 2000.
The 66-year-old father, who is no longer a serving officer, denies the offences and is standing trial at Brighton Crown Court.
On Wednesday, Seekings took to the witness box to give evidence in his defence.
