A new Indianapolis City-County Council gathered for its first full meeting Monday night. It’s the first full meeting for the 25-member council that was sworn in with seven new members.
Six Democratic councilors-elect, and one Republican, make up the freshman class that will take office Jan. 1. Democrats will have a 20-5 majority on the Indianapolis City-County Council.

Overall, the results seemed to reinforce the Republican reign over Indiana's vast suburban and rural swaths, raising more questions than answers about whether Democrats can put a dent in the GOP's long-held dominance over statewide elections in 2024.
