I want to welcome not only our Ranking Members, senator casey and senator scott from florida, but also we have a special guest and that is the cochair with me of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, senator jean of New Hampshire. Mr. Pegues march 2013, officially retired. I was injured september 2000 11 so i was out of work for about a year and a half, almost two years. I had two back surgeries. I was injured at work. Trying to arrest someone. I popped a disk in my back. Brian at the time, what was your rank and where were you a policeman . Mr. Pegues at the time it was a Commanding Officer of the 57th precinct and my rank was Deputy Inspector which is an executive position at the nypd. Brian in the new york Police Department. It could have been heroin or pcp. It is as innocent looking as candy but it is turning our cities into battle zones and murdering children. Let there be no mistake this stuff is poison. Governmen government. Michael mcauliff congressional reporter for the New York Daily News the house is set to take up the 9 11 Victims Compensation fund. Whats the purpose of this fund and when did it start and what would the bill do . Well, the purpose of the fund is to compensate people who are ill or who have died and their families for economic losses and for pain and suffering. It was originally started, you know, right after 9 11 and it lasted for a couple years and then it lapsed because they were really focused on, you know, folks who died in that terrible attack, but then it got resta restarted again in a legislation that passed in 2010 and it lat lapsed again after five years and it got renewed one more time in 2015, but the demand for it has really climbed, so its running out of money a long time before it expires.
