Services this Afternoon for Slain Watauga County Officers

Funeral services for Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox will be held this afternoon (May 6) at the Holmes Convocation Center, 111 Rivers Street, in Boone. The services will begin at 3 p.m. and will end at approximately 4 p.m. Doors will open to the public at 1 p.m. All guests will be required to wear face coverings. Face coverings will be provided for those guests who do not bring them.
Immediately prior to the services, a processional will travel east on Rivers Street and past the Rivers Street parking deck before arriving at the Holmes Convocation Center. The North Carolina Troopers Association Caisson Unit will support the services.

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Keyzen Buchanan, an up-and-coming emergency responder, traveled about an hour Saturday to pay respect to two fallen deputies.
Outside the Watauga County Sheriffâs Office, a memorial is growing for two deputies who had worked there.
There are flowers, candles and notes of support for Sgt. Chris Ward and Deputy Logan Fox who died after they were shot responding to a welfare check near Boone last week.
Funeral arrangements for Logan Fox and Christopher Ward, the two deputies killed in a Watauga County mass shooting that occurred Wednesday, have been announced.

Chris Ward, 36, were killed in the ambush, deputies said. A K-9 responded with Deputy Fox and is OKAY.Investigators said Ward and Fox were dispatched to a home located at 553 Hardaman Circle in Boone at 9:44 a.m. Wednesday after the homeowner and his family didn’t report to work or answer telephone calls, the sheriff’s office said.They were hit by gunfire after entering the home, and while Ward was “extracted from the scene,” Fox remained inside, the statement said.Fox died at the scene while Ward died after being flown to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment, deputies said.
