Drugmakers Working On Vaccine Upgrades As 4,000 COVID Variants Circulate, UK Official Says

Thursday, February 4th 2021, 10:30 am By: CBS News The British official in charge of the U.K. s vaccination program has said there are already about 4,000 variants of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 circulating around the world, but that the vaccines being rolled out should hold up as effective weapons against the evolving pathogen. Vaccine Deployment Minister Nadhim Zahawi told Britain s Sky News it was very unlikely the vaccines wouldn t be effective against the new strains, especially when it comes to severe illness and hospitalization. That said, Zahawi made it clear that fizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Oxford-AstraZeneca and other manufacturers are already looking at how they can improve their vaccine to make sure that we are ready for any variant there are about 4,000 variants around the world of COVID now.

Council awarded £352,622 as part of scheme to fight fake vaccine news

The allocation aims to help 60 councils fight ‘fake Covid vaccine news’ in local communities (Picture: PA) Lancashire councils are among 60 local authorities to get a share of a £23million government fund to support people who are most at risk of long-term impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Community Champions scheme has been set up to address the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on certain groups. The government has allocated £352,622 to Blackburn with Darwen, which will be used to establish a network of Community Champions from across the borough, who will have an ambassador-type role. The list of Lancashire wide allocations is Burnley Council - £106,500; Pendle Borough Council - £90,458; Hyndburn Borough Council - £492,870; Preston City Council - £492,065; Blackpool Borough Council - £211,690.
