both sides of the plane, he may have or she may have exited the plane on that side and came too close to the fire and the flames. as you know, it s a very fluid and chaotic and panic situation when you have an emergency evacuation on a plane. oddly, as you know, if you take many airplane rides, it can take sometimes 20, 30 minutes to board and even longer to get off. but in an emergency planes are supposed to be able to be emptied within three minutes. so nobody s supposed to grab luggage. you are supposed to get up and follow the lights on the floor, go to the exit that s open and go down that chute. it s possible that those that are injured were injured going down that chute. the authorities don t know yet. right now, the airport is closed. north runway area is where this plane was taxiing. you ve talked about the foam. we ve seen just in the past half hour that the fire department was out with foam following along the taxiway. so it may be that they were putting that foam on some fu

luckily firefighters quickly doused that boeing with what looks like flame retardant. we can see the left side of the plane. reportedly a fuel leak had sprung as this flight was taxiing off for a 12:30 departure to caracas. in the aerial shot, you can see that heavy damage from the fire that took place on the left wing. nbc s kerry sanders is joining us now with more about what we understand. and we ve got that figure at 14. and i know earlier with the officials you were speaking, to one was considered serious. has there been a change in that? there has. we now have 20 people who may have been injured. the one who appears to be seriously injured, as you know, 14 have been taken to the hospital. the one who is seriously injured apparently was in some way made contact with the fire on the left side of the plane and was burned. now, it s possible that those chutes that were sent out from
while you were speaking just a second ago, but there was a passenger on another flight that happened to be on the runway that was waiting and we see from the images that they put up on social media via twitter the amount of smoke and concern obviously that everybody had when this erupted out of that engine on the left-hand side of this dynamic international aircraft. again yeah, that s a pretty dramatic picture. sure. we only saw one of those slides deployed from the front. what does that say to you about why there wasn t that rear slide deployed? we don t know how many passengers were on board. maybe they didn t feel it was necessary to go all the way to the back to get away. but it seems as if they all evacuated through the front. possible. or maybe since there s all that charring in the back, it was the back of the cabin that was filling up with smoke first and so then you would naturally be inclined to go forward. that s all i can think of in that case. we are seeing some
two of the slides deployed from the front and the rear of the aircraft. so earlier we were only able to see one slide on the side of the plane that was experiencing the trauma of that fire and on this side, we see both slides were deployed for evacuation. now, we learned from dynamic that these types of flights can carry from about 180 upwards to 290 people. we don t have an idea of how many people were on board this late morning/early afternoon flight from fort lauderdale on four hours to get to caracas, venezuela. what we do know about dynamic international is that they are a newly lined up airline returning direct service from fort lauderdale to caracas, venezuela. they just began operating these flights over the summertime, in july. now, this is something that we
