Vietnamese cement dumping reportedly continues in spite of safeguard duty in the Philippines Written by Global Cement staff 26 April 2021 Philippines: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has launched a probe into the possible imposition of a new anti-dumping duty on imports of cement from Vietnam. The Philippine Star newspaper has reported that Vietnamese cement continues to enter the Philippine market at allegedly dumped prices despite the DTI’s safeguard measures on the product. The DTI is authorised to investigate where prices are believed to be harmful to the domestic industry. Cemex Philippines, Holcim Philippines and Republic Cement have applied for a probe.

Business confidence in Central Luzon continues to surge in 2021

SunStar + April 21, 2021 BUSINESS confidence in Central Luzon continues to surge as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported a total of 29,619 Business Name Registrations (BNRs) from January to March 2021. “Despite the ongoing pandemic, businesses and investors in the region continue to show optimism and dynamism with this upward trend. The figure we have now is 6.6 percent higher compared to the 27,773 BNR processes in the same quarter last year,” DTI OIC-Regional Director Leonila Baluyut said. Of the 29,619 BNRs tallied, 26,012 are new business name registrations while only 3,607 are renewals. Among the provinces in the region, Bulacan registered the most number of business names with 6,832. This was followed by Pampanga with 5,051 registrations; Nueva Ecija – 4,662; Bataan – 4,235 ; Tarlac – 3,972; Zambales – 3,614; and Aurora – 1,253.

In a briefing, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said the government started talking to companies that may manufacture COVID-19 vaccines. “Syempre dito po kausapin natin ang DOH at FDA, pag dating ho sa magkaroon lamang ng mabilis na processing, Greenlane on getting government permits,” Lopez said. (Of course at this point we shall be talking with the DOH and FDA to facilitate the speedy processing, greenlane on getting government permits.)
