Or whatever the processes would be, for a more permanent way of making sure that hiring is really more effective as you have shown . Thank you, commissioner, for that question. Just so you know that part of what we did is that we dismantled some of the norm processees that we used in hiring. But even with that, if you looked at just the nursing, for instance, that theres some things that we did which we can keep as we go forward. And im hoping that it will also blend and lend into the rest of the type of hiring that we do. With the directive from the mayor we were able to bypass some of the Civil Service rule processes in terms of hiring. But what we did specifically is to start looking at with the nurses and hiring without having to wait for the supervisor who is doing the clinical work to do the interviews and the processing. And h. R. Took control of that. And those are some of the things that we can do and to look at in the future as we start in our hiring process. One of the key t
If it didnt have the logo o. P. O. A. On the masks as well . Yes, it did. That is the problem. It is not just the flag which is open for interpretation and is a political party. It is a political union. And i do believe we have guidelines about wearing political stuff during the job. A lot of people recognize the p. O. A. Symbol and unfortunately that is offense ifr to many in the communities and the community and the commission and the department and outright hostile and that is what bothers me and it was a political act. So knowing that and the pictures of the lines of officers wearing them and six, eight, 10 in a row. And different situations. And i had the question i had and commanders and command staff notice it was a political mask and bring it to your attention . It sounds like, you know, the community brought it to your attention. I dont understand why members of your own department see that was a political statement and that was inappropriate. A Community Member brought it to
Little bit more than 50 . Some sections have a little bit less than 50 . And that was for december. As of today, june 2020, we have surpassed 50 . Every station in the San Francisco Police Department has more than 50 of their officers trained. It is a hard task to do. When we talk about training and how we get this training going, i know back in 2016 we had a few incidents that pushed this Program Forward and asked the department to look back and see what else we can do to improve the program. And took over the program in 2015, we had 250 officers that were trained in c. I. T. As of right now we have over 1200 officers and 40 hours. I think thats a big statement that the department has done as far as how much we care about our officers providing the training that they need. Not only do we do that every time we do the training but we want to get the best of the best. So a little history on this, we have people that volunteer, and do not get paid to come and train our officers. So honest
Good evening and welcome to the june 3 meeting of the San Francisco Police Commission. Will you please call roll. Yes. [roll call] we have a quorum. Vice president taylor thank you. In the last few weeks, we watched the barbaric murder of george floyd by vile, racist Police Officers. We watched Ahmaud Arbery get gunned down by white spr supremacists. Study after study shows that white people and black people are not only more likely to commit crimes, they think that we feel less pain. We have a less nuanced feeling, and less worthy of protection, so we often have to fend for ourselves. Racism is definitely a police problem, one that is as old as our entire nation, but lets be clear no ones off the hook. Racism is an america problem. Trayvon martin, Ahmaud Arbery were killed by citizens. The overwhelming number of hate crimes are committed by ordinary citizens. Every Single Member of this commission is committed to rooting out bias in this Police Department, and after seeing the murder
