Leaders of Law Enforcement organizations, including the Police Chiefs from around the nation. Good afternoon. So, this is the order today, if its ok with everybody. I will give an Opening Statement and i have got a short video. With a few minutes to add to it. Senators feinstein, booker harris, if you would like to make Opening Statements. Is that ok . And we have some people that will do introducing to the panels. We will get to that later. So thank you for coming. We are here for a reason. Without the death of mr. Floyd we would not be here. A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. My goal is trying to define the problem, offer solutions, and talk to each other, not past each other. And i have a short video that is tough to watch. I talked to senator booker about it, the first couple of minutes, but it ends up on a very positive note. We will see if it will go from really hard to watch to something thats a little more acceptable for the country. If you could roll the video. Is
Minutes to add to it. Senator feinstein, senator booker, senator harris, if you would like to make Opening Statements. Is that ok . We have some people who will do some introducing to the panel. I have a short video that is tough to watch and i talked to senator booker about it the first couple minutes, but it ends up on a very positive note and we will see if we can go from really hard to watch to something that is a little bit more acceptable to the country. If you could roll the video. Is it working . Can we consider it an act of god and not air it . Could be. Well . What do we expect to see . You are expecting to see a video, but you are not. So i will just talk. E his very painful death, its about the gentleman who was jogging in georgia and got shot. And it was about the recent atlanta case. Floyds, refusing to let up, get up even is the man beneath him beg for life and lost consciousness. Then he spent another 60 minutesen after hed fallen silent growing the number of witnesses to begged h him to see the obvious that the man under his knee was unresponsive. He was dying. As a mom there are not words to describe that gut wrenching feeling of hearing someone cry out forsoir their mother in a moment of such desperation. His death was unnecessary and heartbreaking it was a tragedy butyi horrifyingly is not an anomaly. From eric garner who told us six years ago he could not breeds, to merit rice never made it to his 13th birthday the senseless killing of unarmed black americans at the hands of Law Enforcement has become an all too common occurrence. The outrage in horror and anger to many people would appear to believe is normal. It is not. Let it we cannot let ourselves become numb to whats in front of us. George floyd was someone son with his dying breath called out for his
While were averting one Public Health crisis, were unfortunately creating another. And so i know that depression is seting in with some people. Folks who had no income and no ability to take care of themselves and their families. We know that domestic violence, suicide, child abuse, all these things are a result of what we see happen and it is even worse for people in lowincome and poverty. On the one hand, we are lowering the curve and really been a leader in that effort but there is another Public Health crisis that is brewing as a result of the decisions that were making. How are we expected to sustain this . How are we expected to continue to live like this while, you know, there still are a lot of people suffering from something thats a different Public Health crisis. I agree. I agree with you completely. And i think thats really one of the challenges and, you know, when the Health Officers talk about the issues, we recognize that when you look at health in its complete way, the w
