A small, independent pharmacy in Lancaster County has received hundreds of COVID-19 vaccine doses earmarked for dental professionals and physical therapists.Pharmacist Melissa Koehler opened Hillcrest Pharmacy & Compounding less than a month ago and was able to secure 400 doses.The Department of Health asked her to find health care workers to vaccinate. I just started calling the local dentist offices within 1, 2, 3 miles from our location here. I called some physical therapy offices,” Koehler said.All of the doses were spoken for within days.Physical therapist Amanda Dinkel was one of the people who signed up. She said her family contracted the coronavirus in May, and she couldn’t wait for the vaccine. As a physical therapist, you’re probably the closest to a patient. LE MARS Floyd Valley Healthcare expects to receive the planned allotment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. As directed by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), we anticipate moving from Tier 1A Frontline Healthcare workers caring for COVID patients to Tier 1A Frontline Workers in other healthcare settings in early January.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling 712-546-3646. Phones will answered Monday Fridays from 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Identification from an employer, such as a name badge or letter from the employer, will be required to assure those seeking a vaccination are in the current priority group.
