A retired judge, former independent Police Officer for san jose, shachaired the commisn and likened the jails here in the county to a plane that crashed and said that the person in charge, the sheriff, was the pilot, indifferent, incompetent, combination of both, taking down that plane. The Commission Wants to the supervisors here to replace lori smith, the sheriff, take away her role as Head Authority over the jails here. The commission alleges that overall Sheriffs Department didnt cooperate during the process, not giving documents. One example the county says one area of concern is inmate fights. 80 this year compared to 225 last year. A week ago today ten or so got into a fight in a medium secure area forcing a lackdown, in march 20 inmates began fighting each other. The commission asked Sheriffs Department for procedures and policies in place during the time of the fight and that the department has refused to share them.
