JACKSON, MI – Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies will not seek reelection for the city’s highest office.
Dobies announced his decision to step away on Thursday, April 1, after two two-year terms as mayor. His current term as mayor ends this year.
Dobies, 35, said he wants to step down and allow another person to take over as mayor, he said. He recommends Daniel Mahoney, a Democratic Jackson County commissioner representing District 7 in Jackson, because he thinks there’s an opportunity to let leadership reflect the residents of Jackson.
