SRINAGAR: The delimitation of assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is a part of the BJP’s “larger plan to divide and pit” regions, religions and communities against each other, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti alleged.
Taking to Twitter, Mehbooba on Sunday said the Centre was “railroading” delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir with a “tearing hurry”, raising serious apprehensions about the motives of the exercise.
“The tearing hurry with which GOI (the Government of India) is railroading delimitation in J&K has raised genuine & serious apprehensions about the motives of this exercise. It’s a part of BJP’s larger plan to divide & pit regions, religions & communities against each other,” she said.

JAMMU, Feb 20: Delimitation Commission chairperson Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir shortly as the Union Ministry for Law and Justice is set to extend her term beyond March 5 while the Commission is likely to invite suggestions on delimitation and reservation of Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory in writing from the political parties.
Reliable sources told the Excelsior that the Union Ministry for Law and Justice which had constituted the Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir on March 6, 2020 for fresh delimitation of 90 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory is likely to extend the term of Justice Desai, most likely for another six months as her one-year term is expiring on March 5.

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: National Conference MPs led by party president Dr Farooq Abdullah today informed the Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir that they wouldn’t participate in its proceedings as the abrogation of the erstwhile State’s special status was pending adjudication before the Supreme Court.
In a letter to Delimitation Commission chairperson Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, Abdullah, Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone expressed their inability to associate with the commission.
They also urged him not to go ahead with the delimitation process as the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 is under judicial scrutiny.
