Amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the national capital, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced a weekend curfew in the city. The curfew will begin from 10 pm Friday and will continue till 6 am Monday, the government announced on Thursday. This comes as a nightmare for people who were getting ready for the upcoming wedding season. The Delhi government has already capped the guestlist to 100 and 200 people for close and open space events, respectively. The “bride, groom, and close family members” are exempted from the night curfew restrictions, guests attending the wedding will require a curfew e-pass. Those who have a valid night curfew e-pass are not required to take a separate pass for the weekend curfew, the Delhi government said today.
Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday had announced a curfew this weekend and the closure of malls, gymnasiums and auditoriums till April 30 as part of sweeping restrictions to break the chain of the infection.
The total infection caseload of Delhi has reached 7,67,438. There are 50,736 active cases so far. With 104 additional deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall Covid-19 death toll of the national capital now stands at 11,540.
Furthermore, a total of 9,952 people recovered from the virus in the said period, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,05,162.
The Covid-19 positivity rate of Delhi also jumped to 15.92 per cent on Wednesday.
