A man from Madhya Pradesh has claimed that someone used his PAN and Aadhaar card details illegally to create a fake GST number. This fraudulent GST number was then used to set up a private company with a reported annual turnover of over Rs nine crore.
Chandan Soni, a resident of Gwalior, discovered that his personal details – PAN card and Aadhaar card – had been misused to create a fraudulent GST number and a fake company in his name. This company, "MG SALES", even showed a fabricated turnover exceeding Rs 9 crore. Now, the Delhi Police s Economic Offences Wing is investigating this identity theft and potential financial crime.
The investigation by the EOW revealed that the number of victims was much larger, with 29 of them also hailing from Nepal. Police officers estimated the scam collectively amounted to between Rs 4-5 crore.
