Sources told Business Today that demand is not feasible as it will cost the Centre an additional Rs 10 lakh crore. They said that the total value of agricultural produce in FY 20 was Rs 40 lakh crore. This included produce from dairy, farming, horticulture, livestock, and MSP crops.
Haryana Police hurled tear gas shells when a group of youth, who were part of the farmers Chalo Delhi protest march, tried to break barricades set up at the Shambhu border in Ambala, officials said. A few farmers were detained as well near the Shambhu border, official sources said. The farmers decided to begin their march after a meeting with two Union ministers over their demands, including legal guarantee to MSP for crops, on Monday evening remained inconclusive. Farmers on Tuesday morning commenced their Delhi Chalo march from Punjab to press for their demands, amid heavy barricading at Haryana-Punjab border and entry points into the national capital.
