The Yamuna River in Delhi is flowing above the danger mark, raising concerns of a flood-like situation. The old Yamuna bridge has been suspended, and the route between Delhi and Shahdara will be affected.
The PIL, filed through advocate K R Shiyas, states that the “lackadaisical response from authorities cost the livelihood of hundreds of poor and destroyed their sole shelter which contained household items and important documents which proves (their) existence.”
The counsel for the government submitted before a bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, which was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) matter seeking free ration, medical assistance etc. at the relief camps here, that a cabinet decision has been taken to provide a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to the affected families and shelter has also been given to them
The Delhi government is on high alert as the flood-like situation looms over the national capital again after the water level in Yamuna breached the danger mark of 205.33 meters once again today. The water level of the swollen river recorded 205.81 meters at 7 am.
