sources tells cnn investigators uncovered evidence that files from those hard drives were deleted more recently than previously disclosed date of february 3rd that malaysian officials talked about. we still have a lot of unanswered questions. we don t know when this happened. how many deletions there were and who made those deletions. the fbi didn t receive the hard drive until two days ago. forensic experts as well as outside consultants are in a full tilt dive to uncover what was deleted and how it may be a race. that will be very telling. first piece of evidence investigators are looking at is whether those deletions were done in a routine fashion or whether they were scrubbed clean in a more sophisticated way which is more of a red flag and investigators looking at information such as browser history to put a full profile together of these two pilots but so far important to emphasize there s been nothing to indicate nefarious intent. let s talk about transcript
were made. we don t have a lot of critical information here, like when the deletions happened and who made them. the fbi did not receive the hard drive until this week, nearly two weeks after the plane went missing and consultants have been meticulously combing through that hard drive. they are looking for valuable and they are being looking at whether it was done in a routine manner which, of course, would be more of a red flag. s investigators are looking at information, such as a browser history, visit to chat rooms and online research that the pilots might have done, anything to help them build profiles of the two men flying flight 370. at this point, it s important to note that we have no information indicating that the pilots were planning the flight disappearance and it could be an
to get some information they might be able to release. all my sources are saying it is going to take some time because of the large volume of the data in that hard drive. at least a couple of taerabytes. i understand that is a lot of data they have to filter through. what they will find out is the degree of those deletions, whether they were routine or more sophisticated. then, they will find out exactly what was on that deleted data. it could take several days. we don t have a specific timeline. pamela, mark, thanks so much for being with us. interesting. very interesting. it would appear the plane was in the air longer than it was meant to be on its original flight path to beijing. could it have run out of gas and drifted into the indian ocean where the debris was spotted on satellite. we are going to take a look at that scenario with two veteran pilots next and take a few of your questions. to confirm the transcripts but the prime minister said that they would not release that data, wolf. originally the co-pilot was speaking to ground control in english but there s a transcript that was translated into mandarin and it s been retranslated into the english? exactly. and for that reason we re making that footnote that some of the wording may not be as precise. it s a retranslation. no doubt about that. rene, thanks very much. cnn is also learning information about the hard drives from the pilots computers and their laptops. what are you learning? we re gathering information from our sources and my colleague, evan perez, has said that files have been recovered after february 3rd. that s when the malaysian authorities said the deletions
to be brought in, whether they need experts from the software company. but as far as the degree of the data that was deleted, whether the captain, you know, or someone else used sophisticated software security technology that would overwrite the data and so forth, we should be able to find the degree of deletions relatively soon, today, the next day, couple days. but as far as what s on that hard drive, that could take much longer. it could take weeks. we just don t know at this point because we are still in the early stages how long it will take. but as one of my sources said it could take some time. all right. pamela brown reporting for us. thank you. let s get some analysis on all these late-breaking developments. joining us our cnn aviation analyst, former ntsb manager peter gol, mark weiss and tom fuentes, former director at the fbi. peter, let s get back to the debris. it looks like a pretty promising
