The Georgia Board of Education on June 16 quietly approved the facilities plan for DeKalb County Schools, making the district eligible for state funds for building projects.
“Some of [the concerns] were very silly, but some of them were things I wouldn't know unless I was getting out there and involved. Like, they're speaking to me about their lunch period. I think it's about 30 minutes and if you're a child who's at the end of lunchtime, you only get like three minutes for recess. And I'm like, that's an inequity!”
Voters in DeKalb County are casting ballots on May 24 for various primary races. Voters experienced some technical difficulties, but had smooth experiences once they were resolved.
During her evaluation by the DeKalb School Board in September 2021, former superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris heard that board members were overwhelmingly unsatisfied with the condition of the district's facilities.
