Mayor Luke Bronin said the vouchers were made available to the city with the help of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Secretary of Housing, Marcia Fudge, U.S. Sens, Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, both D-Conn., and U.S, Rep. John Larson, D-1.
The announcement of the funding came two days after members of a Tenant Union held a public meeting with Bronin and city officials during which they broached concerns about their living conditions.
Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez said the focus for the program is to make sure staff and educators represent the communities of their students.
Hartford City Councilman Nick Lebron announced his bid to become the city’s next mayor on Wednesday, running on the slogan, “People. Purpose. Progress.”
