MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the government had earlier made it clear to social media and online platforms that if its advisory on deepfake is not fully adhered to, new IT rules would follow.
The advisory says that terms of service and user agreements must clearly highlight that platforms are under obligation to report legal violations to law enforcement agencies.
The IT Ministry will issue advisories to social media intermediaries in the next two days on ensuring 100 per cent compliance on tackling deepfakes and spread of misinformation on their respective platforms, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday.
The IT ministry had earlier also issued advisories to the chief compliance officers of various social media platforms after it received reports regarding the potential use of AI-generated deepfakes.
