RICHMOND, Va. A VCU Health Psychiatrist has taken the loss she experienced as a child and used it to understand the impact of grief and loss on children, something more than a million children are experiencing after losing a parent or caregiver to COVID-19.
The Lancet and the Journal of the American Medical Association reported at least 113,000 U.S. children were struggling with âpandemic griefâ after losing a parent or caregiver to COVID. Another study with researchers from the CDC showed globally, that number was at 1.5 million.

A group of Fairfax County parents on Monday reached the signature threshold to recall a school board member who voted against reopening classrooms.
Open FCPS Coalition petitioned a Fairfax County Court judge to recall Elaine Tholen, who voted against reopening schools despite evidence that it was safe. The group collected more than 3,500 signatures from people who agreed Tholen was negligent in her duties to Fairfax County students, particularly those with special needs.
The effort to recall Tholen is the latest response of Fairfax County parents to school officials’ handling of the coronavirus pandemic. A group of parents opposed to the district’s embrace of critical race theory last month won seats on the Parent Teacher Student Association of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Fairfax County’s elite, STEM

TUPELO â Juanita DeBow, 91, of Tupelo, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Countrywood Assisted Living Center in Mantachie. She was born July 20, 1929 in Tremont, MS to Byron and Arnie Stevens Stone. She married Eugene DeBow June 12, 1948. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and loved traveling.
A private graveside service will be Friday, February 19, 2021 in Lee Memorial Park. A memorial service will be at a later date. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by husband, Eugene DeBow; two sons, Michael (Rebecca) DeBow of Birmingham and Scott DeBow of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Andrea DeBow, Claire DeBow Cotten, and John DeBow and three great grandchildren, Lily Grace Tackitt, Laurel Rebecca Cotten, and Ella Margaret Cotten.
