Austin voters will officially be able to vote on decriminalizing marijuana after City Council approved an initiative for the May ballot on Tuesday.The proposal comes from a petition by Austin organization Ground Game Texas that included 33,000 signatures, 23,000 of which were registered voters. Council then had the choice to enact the ordinance without voters; instead, it decided with a 7-3 vote to pass it on to the May ballot after a closed door executive session, with many members saying they want to hear what Austin voters think about the reform.

Texas Senate Has Passed Legislation Decriminalizing Marijuana Concentrates
At the start of the week, a Texas Senate committee passed a House bill to lessen the penalty for possession of cannabis concentrates. With this bill passing the house, it is now off for full chamber consideration. Also, another committee passed a bill in regards to hemp legislation. On this bill, language was added that would strongly restrict delta-8-THC products. This push for cannabis reform comes as advocates step up their efforts for separate bills. This would be done to further develop the stateâs medical-marijuana program. As well as broadly decriminalize the possession of marijuana.
