Eastern Cape farmers and livestock owners have been warned to be on the alert for stock theft heading into the festive season after the recovery of 162 suspected stolen sheep, 62 goats and 14 cows worth more than R400,000 in recent weeks.Some of the sheep were found locked inside a village church building.

Mthatha taxi owner shot and killed

A taxi owner was shot and killed while another sustained injuries after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a car they were travelling in on Tuesday night. Both victims are members at the Mamela Taxi Rank in Mthatha. The incident took place along the Mthatha bypass which connects to the R61 near Decoligny and the N2 near Northcrest residential suburb.

A church leader who led a prayer at one of the province’s most dangerous accident hotspots, lost her son in a car accident at the same place the next day. Fountain Gate Worshipping Centre head pastor Mamela Notyhawe found herself returning to the notorious N2 road near Makhaphetshwini outside Mthatha on Saturday to identify her son’s body.
