MACOMB Humane Society of McDonough County President Bonnie Smith Skripps said this week that her group has received a $4,000 donation from RWE Renewables, a new wind farm organizer. The money will go toward building a new county animal shelter.
The county board s planning committee was also told Thursday by Animal Control Assistant Joe Rossmiller that the shelter was overrun by 49 cats in March. After 15 were adopted, two died, and one was taken by an animal rescuer, there were 31 cats in the shelter at the end of the month.
Rossmiller said 12 dogs were adopted in March, eight were reclaimed, and one was taken by an animal rescuer. He said there were just two dogs remaining in the shelter at the end of the month.
