Two lives saved at McDonough District Hospital By Patrick Stout Voice Correspondent MACOMB The McDonough District Hospital Board of Directors heard Thursday about the efforts of Dr. Nicholas Viyuoh, Dr. James Lee, and Dr. Shea Trost in saving the lives of a mother and child. Hospital CEO Brian Dietz related the story to the board. He said it was confirmed by Chief Medical Officer Ed Card and by Hospitalist Director Jack McPherson. Dietz also reported hearing many compliments this week from McDonough County Board Chairman Scott Schwerer, other county board members and elected county officers about MDH service and capabilities. It was pretty touching to hear those comments, he said.

NTN Bower, Western Grain report growth

Voice Correspondent MACOMB The management board of the Macomb/Bushnell Enterprise Zone was told Thursday that nearly $1.4 million was spent in 2020 for new bins at Western Grain Marketing and that $57,163 was spent on electrical improvements at NTN Bower. Of the Western Grain Marketing improvements, McDonough County Board Chairman Scott Schwerer said, Agriculture is still a major economic driver in the county. The county hosts one wind farm and another one is in development. Zone Administrator Kim Pierce said neither is actually in the enterprise zone, but they are considered high impact businesses by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

County s 2020 income exceeds predictions Patrick Stout Voice Correspondent MACOMB McDonough County Board Chairman Scott Schwerer told the board s finance committee this week that all tax income for 2020 is consistently above what had been budgeted for the year. He added that Waste Management host fees to the county for the Envirofil landfill were higher because Ameren Illinois deposited for decontamination the dirt from its property in downtown Macomb. The committee voted to recommend payment of $1,000 to McDonough County Public Transportation for 667 senior rides given in November.
