Damage to Elkford COVID Signs On April 27, Elk Valley RCMP learned that in the past few weeks, there has been approximately 20 paper laminated COVID-19 signs ripped down and burned or damaged in parks, playgrounds and ball diamonds in and around Elkford. Break and Enter into residence with family at home On April 29, Elk Valley RCMP received a report that a home was broken into and various items were stolen, including the family vehicle. During this brazen crime, the homeowners were home.  The suspect(s), while backing out of the driveway, put the vehicle into the ditch and left it there.

Posted: April 23, 2021 RCMP investigating report of police impersonation Elk Valley RCMP is investigating an incident where an Alberta resident was pulled over on Highway 3 in B.C. near the Alberta border by someone impersonating a police officer. On Tuesday, April 20, the Alberta resident advised that the suspected police imposter was dressed in police style uniform and had flashing red/blue lights in the grill of a dark coloured SUV. The impersonator officer was male, wearing a black disposable face mask, a style police cap with yellow hat band, and dark heavy jacket. “The impersonator asked the Alberta resident why and where they were travelling in B.C. The Albertan responded they were going to their workplace and the impersonator ended the interaction and returned to his vehicle,” reported A/Cpl Debra Katerenchuk of Elk Valley RCMP.

A/Cpl Debra Katerenchuk Elk Valley RCMP Detachment Media Report contains details of investigations into assault with a weapon; egg throwing at senior’s home; and stolen backpack. Serious assault leads to search warrant of residence On March 20, a Fernie male sustained serious injuries after being assaulted with a weapon and being forcibly confined in a residence. The male was able to escape and sought medical attention at the Fernie Hospital. Police executed a search warrant at a Fernie residence and seized evidence in relation to the offence. This was an isolated incident and the RCMP continue to investigate, as well as attempt to identify suspects.
