The Commerce Committee held a hearing on his nomination on june 8 in 2017 and reported his nomination favorably out of the committee on june 29 of 2017 by voice vote. Its now november 9. Over four months since the nomination was reported out of committee. This noncontroversial well qualified nominee has been languishing in the senate for far too long. To my friend from wyoming, my local utility, the Los Angeles Department of water and power just concluded a very large agreement with a wyoming wind company to import windgenerated electricity from wyoming to help replace some of the coalfired energy that they have been relying on. They are actually takeing responsibility for being the largest demander in our state even though the electricity that we were using was coming from utah, as it happens. And there will be costs associated with transitioning away from the coal and into the wind. But overall the net of it is that los angeles ratepayers will still be doing okay because the utility is taking steps to help their customers become more efficient in their use of energy. Country by country. But you can see how the society as a whole is improved when conditions for women improve. And i think that everybodys winners. And one of the things that if when data like this exists it convinces more people that they should, in fact increase standards. And more men get involved the better. So were all for that. And i do think that we are stymied in some areas because we have made political controversy or made partisan really things that are no brainers that such as health care or trying to reduce Maternal Mortality. There are so many things we can agree on, ending violence against women. You have to have more involvement in men. You should not politicize these things. It took us too long to reauthorize the violence against women act here in this country. We know that to have legislation like this helps fight violence against women. And everybody wins. So im hoping that we can through hard core data and knowing more about these issues there will be less partisanshi
