To go through and be scrutinized around some of those comparisons with Small Businesses and come out the backside with something that really has a starting point of being wanted by the local community. If you look at where formula retail wants to go, it does not go into a lot of the communities which is the greatest need for jobs or services or retail diversity. They tend to go to places where theres already lots of money and where they can outcompete other business necessarition he. They are not big risk takers. If youre trying to encourage risk taking that goes to compelling business relationships, not whether they have a sea requirement. It is time to update some of the controls. A couple of quick things. Concentration analysis is really helpful. Formula retailers often want to congregate locally. It is important to recognize whether thats tipping kind of the proper mix. An Economic Analysis is good. Procurement side from Small Businesses. And i do want you to note that actually the mayor has asked naomi kelly in the office of Contract Administration excuse me, not office of Contract Administration, office of contract management division. Theyre actually theyve hired a consultant to do some analysis on ways to improve the 14b local purchasing ordinance. So, the mayor is actively engaged in looking at what can be done to improve and increase our local businesses getting contracts. And then the other two item that were discussed were the minimum wage, as that item was introduced the previous week, and then, of course, the Health Care Security ordinance. And while this will still be for some businesses a bit of a challenge to be able to meet these mandates, there was definitely appreciation for the mayor for stepping in and, you know, bringing forth measures that were the best at this particular point in time that could be done, and that, that were not taking a look at, especially for
And i learned a lot about leadership from teds style. We have a lot of a naziing and brilliant leaders in our city and i think i might say many of them frustrate us every day. We agree with them, but they might drive us nuts. Ted was not one of them. He was an unbelievably kind, gentle and decent soul. And in a city political environmental, he exemplified humility, humbleness. He was gentle while he was fierce. And i think its really hard to imagine the tenants world and progressive politics in San Francisco without ted gul acson. And i know many of us, we are celebrating our giants this month. But i think we also know that we are all mourning for and celebrating a true giant for tenants and for San Francisco who is an incredible champion for san franciscans. My next item that ill be submitting is an in memoriam for ted gulagson who passed away last week, very ~ surprising many people who have been struck by his passing. Last week we lost a beloved friend, an inspirational organizer of the citys tenants when ted gulacson passed unexpectedly. Ted is survived by his sister sandra gul acson gaol by, stepdaughter, nieces and nephews and former partner sheila and dog who ted took in when he wandered up to his door.
