yes, he had some good moments, especially when it came to criticisms of her and her policies and president obama s policies. but to suggest that he is not going to necessarily accept the results of the nomination, that was a disastrous answer. it was truly extraordinary. i have never heard anything like that. dana bash, his vice presidential running mate said they would of course accept the result, the voice of the american people. his daughter said the same thing. he refused to say that. he said i want to keep you in suspense. not only did his running mate say that, he said that to us in the debate hall an hour before donald trump took the stage, so it really goes to show that donald trump, no matter how much he prepared and we do understand he prepared very well. for the most part, i agree with you, jake. for the most part during this debate, that came through. he was a much more disciplined donald trump. at the end of the day before that comment happened, it looked like it was
very, very disciplined. she is not only practiced but she has executed what she has practiced almost to a t. donald trump has not. at least this time around, our understanding is that he has practiced in a more traditional way. even though he has done that, people close to him don t know if he will be the disciplined candidate. because discipline and donald trump generally don t go hand in hand. even donald trump is one to say that. so it is still a very open question. how he is going to handle himself once he gets on the debate stage. we point out the obvious. they didn t introduce the families as they did earlier in the debates and i suspect the two candidates will go to the lecterns and not necessarily shake hands. and the reason that bill clinton and melania trump won t shake hands is because the clinton campaign was put off by what they called the stunt involving past accusers of bill clinton s to the last debate, giving them seats in the debate
suspen suspense. not only did his running mate say that, he said that to us in the debate hall an hour before donald trump took the stage, so it really goes to show that donald trump, no matter how much he prepared and we do understand he prepared very well. for the most part, i agree with you, jake. for the most part during this debate, that came through. he was a much more disciplined donald trump. at the end of the day before that comment happened, it looked like it was a wash, that she did well, that he did well. it wasn t clear if anybody was going to benefit or not until that moment when he was asked something very basic, something that my understanding is that he was certainly prepared for and he didn t answer it affirmatively. and more importantly, she was prepared for it. she had all of her opposition research ready to go about the times where he called other systems rigged, even the emmys when he didn t win an emmy.
exactly. we were out in the hallway. we got don jr., donald trump jr. we asked him this issue about what his father said, this idea that he will look into the results of the election. donald trump jr. said, we have heard other surrogates, kellyanne conway and jeff sessions and chairman reince priebus, that if there is voter fraud, then he would potentially challenge the results of the election if there is voter fraud. we pushed him on the idea of this qualification issue. what does that mean for democracy as he was in a scrum of reporters out there? he sort of turned around and said, if there is voter fraud, the implication being, woe move to potentially challenge. i am going to move to get him here. if you can stick around or come back. we are going to try to talk to him more about this. eric trump is here spinning for his father, who, as you know, has left the debate hall. no longer in the building,
eric trump is here spinning for his father, who, as you know, has left the debate hall. no longer in the building, leaving it to his surrogates to talk about this. i would also not note we did interview rnc chair reince priebus, who has been silent. we said, where have you been? he said, i m here talking to you now, defending donald trump and essentially saying he was going to clarify the remarks donald trump said on stage in saying he would accept the results of election if there weren t widespread issues. hallie, if i get him, we ll roll tape. we ll come back and show that. i have to get to chris matthews who has two special guests. i have the number one surrogate for donald trump and also the campaign manager for donald trump. ladies first, what about this kerfuffle now, bigger than a kerfuffle, about whether donald trump will accept the results of this election? will he? yes, because he is going to win it.
