SHILLONG: The BSF (Border Security Force) Meghalaya responsible for guarding the 444-KM stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya has intensified its vigil and stepped up anti-smuggling drive. The BSF has also reviewed its domination plan to thwart smugglers continuing bids to smuggle various contraband items.
During the last week, the BSF seized various items worth approximately Rs 89,88,951, and apprehended one Indian and four Bangladeshi nationals involved in smuggling activities. The quantities of the recovered items along with their approximate market values are as follow: 71 cattle with market value of Rs 10,77,800; 14,312 kg of dry peas worth Rs 14,19,810; 102 liqour valued at Rs 14,076; eight vehicles valued at Rs 31,08,

Similarly, the non-oil exports are expected to grow. They might reach $73.9 billion, growing at 12 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2020-21. However, aggregate exports for 2020-21 are forecast to amount to $279.4 billion, witnessing a contraction of 10.8 per cent over 2019-20. Besides, non-oil exports are forecast to amount to $256.8 billion, witnessing a contraction of 5.6 per cent over 2019-20.

SILCHAR: In a bid to encourage voters to exercise their franchise in the upcoming assembly elections, the Cachar district administration has been making efforts to create awareness among the masses. However, one such effort has found a place in the 2022 edition of the India Book of Records.
The recognition was granted for creating the longest rangoli on voters awareness. The record was attempted by the district administration on March 14 at Barkhola constituency area of Cachar District of Assam. The process to make the 8 kilometre-long rangoli on the street was completed within 24 hours.

Thousands of Muslims staged a protest at the BadaImambara here on Sunday against former Shia Waqf Board chief Waseem Rizvi who has filed a petition for removal of 26 verses from the Holy Quran. Sunni and Shia clerics led the protest against Rizvi and demanded his immediate arrest. Rizvi has also been excommunicated.
Unprecedented security arrangements had been made in the old city on Sunday in view of the protests. Barricades were set up from the ChhotaImambara to the TeeleWali Masjid and a strong police presence was evident at the spot. Police personnel had also been deployed on the roofs of adjoining houses and buildings. (IANS)

BENGALURU: Just an hour after former BJP minister Ramesh Jarakiholi lodged a complaint against unknown people on Saturday, accusing them of hatching a conspiracy against him, another video clip of the woman, who claimed to have been featured in the CD, surfaced on social media in which she could be seen urging the Karnataka government to provide protection to her.
This is the first time that the woman has come out in the open after the sleaze CD episode came to light on March 2.
