Dear Hong Kong,
This city is home to people of different ethnic groups, including those who have been named “ethnic minorities”. However, the misleading term implies that they are non-mainstream, non-local or non-Hong Kong people. This reminds me of a quote that says, “never judge a book by its cover”, because those I know have a strong sense of belonging towards Hong Kong, and are eager to contribute to society. We should address them with kinder and friendlier words, a sincere gesture to express our genuine belief that we are the same.
Ethnic inclusion is a reciprocal concept. On the one hand, Hong Kong Chinese should treat other ethnic groups fairly and equally; on the other hand, Hong Kong people of other ethnic groups should be more proactive and feel confident in integrating into mainstream society. It is the process of exploring personal ethnic identity. Many journals suggest that a clear and complete concept of ethnic identity can contribute to one&rsquo

I am Gary, and I was diagnosed Psoriasis for more than 25 years. Nearly 9 years ago, I set up the Hong Kong Psoriasis Patients’ Association with the aim of promoting public awareness of the disease as well as advocating our patients’ rights and benefits.
