Rigby hosts 21st annual kite festival Published
RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI) – On Saturday, Rigby High School hosted the 21st annual Just For Fun Kite Festival.
The event was started by Dean Turnblom and his family over two decades ago and have continued the tradition year after year. The local community was excited to come out to fly some kites after not being able to last year due to the pandemic.
The festival had an even more special meaning this year, with the Rigby community still recovering from the shock of last week s school shooting. Flying kites is relaxing, said Rob Turnblom. It’s fun to see the colors, and everybody has a smile on their face when their kite is high in the sky.

RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI) - Kids of all ages are taking to the skies this weekend as the Just For Fun Kite Festival soars into Rigby.
The community is excited to host the 21st annual event after not being able to last year because of the pandemic.
The festival has an even more special meaning this year as it looks to lift the spirits of a community recovering from the shock of last week s school shooting.
Organizers hope these kites will help people release some of their concerns and just for a few hours fly away with their kites.
Teacher Credited With Disarming Sixth-Grade Student Who Shot 3 at School: Father
An eighth-grade teacher in Idaho was credited with disarming a sixth-grade girl who opened fire in a school on May 6, according to the teacher’s father.
The teacher, Krista Gneiting, was trying to rush a wounded student to safety when she saw the girl with the gun run across the hallway.
“So she sat the boy down and told him to be quiet and to be still. And she started walking toward the girl, talking to her very calmly and telling her things would be OK, we just needed to stop and think things through a little bit and just tried to settle her down,” her father, Dean Turnblom, told Fox News last week.

RIGBY – Krista Gneiting, the teacher identified by law enforcement as the person who confronted and disarmed the suspect during Thursday’s shooting at Rigby Middle School, told her father she felt there was an “angel on my shoulder that was telling me what to say and what to do.”
The incident began around 9:10 a.m. – less than an hour after classes began. During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said a female sixth-grade student pulled a handgun from her backpack and fired multiple rounds inside and outside the school.
