A Fife farm manager will amend crop nutrition in response to live crop monitoring as part of his involvement in an arable trials project. David Aglen, farms manager at Balbirnie Home Farms near Freuchie, is taking part in the three-year Strategic Cereal Farm project with levy body, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). The first year’s trial will look at whether amending crop nutrition in response to live crop monitoring – using a measure known as the Brix value – will have an economic benefit on crop health, yield and grain quality.

Grant Matthew was spotted fly-tipping near the historic Moncrieffe Estate, on the outskirts of Bridge of Earn, last summer. The 28-year-old, a self-employed groundworker from Fife, has now admitted depositing controlled waste without a proper licence. Jason Massie, 29, forced his way in through a window in a cupboard on Union Place and stole more than £1,000 worth of goods that were never recovered. The crook was snared after leaving blood and fingerprints at the scene, as well as a locking knife on the outside window ledge. Massie, a man with multiple convictions, was jailed after admitting the break-in at Dundee Sheriff Court. The woman who resides at the flat returned at 1am on February 10 2020 and realised the front door was no longer locked.
