for that roast here on a friday. rooted in fact. thanks the both of you. i want to turn to howard feynman to talk about what happened right here a year ago. i was going to fire comey knowing there was no good time to do it. in fact, when i decided to just do it i said to myself i said, you know, this russia thing with trump and russia is a made up story. this russia thing, donald trump s infamous interview with nbc s lester holt revealed that russia by his own account was part of why he fired comey. six days after that interview the goose began cooking because his own appointee, rod rosenstein appointed bob mueller. to this day mueller wants to ask about that firing. chief of staff john kelly admitting trump is embarrassed by it. there may not be a cloud but clearly the president is somewhat embarrassed frankly when world leaders come in. bb netanyahu was here, who is
did you ask the president if he had any corrupt motives? you can t be a witness and at the same time supervise prosecution but do you really believe that s what the intent of the president is, in terms of getting rid of rosenstein? i don t know the mind of the president. all i m saying is that there s a legitimate argument that could be made for him, a, to recuse himself, and if he doesn t do that, to go to court and seek a recusal. there s a big difference between recusal and firing. firing is an act by the president. i would be very much opposed to that. it would be a terrible mistake. you would be against him firing rosenstein? yes, or firing mueller, firing anybody. that s a big difference between that and his lawyers taking a legitimate step that many lawyers would take of seeking recusal. rod rosenstein has been it s been known that he was involved in writing this letter since the day comey was appoi appointed last may. since the day mueller was appointed. since
concern, chris, but many of them are found in the intelligence memo that democrats are trying to block the american people from seeing. every republican on the intelligence committee voted for more transparency. every democrat voted against it. so unfortunately i can t even discuss the issues around that. what i can say is that the text messages between strzok and page, which you just mentioned in the intro to this segment, are very damning. it s not republicans who created the theory of a secret society. that was lisa page s text message to her boyfriend, peter strzok. it wasn t republicans that deleted five months of text messages. i mean strzok and page were texting each other more than a high school cheerleading squad, but somehow it s a five month black hole. they were romantically involved. they were, but you don t find it a bit interesting that the black hole starts right when obama launches the counterintelligence investigation in august, and then it magically ends like the
society. that was pages text message to her boyfriend peter strozk. it wasn t republicans that deleted five months of text messages. strozk and page were texting each other more than a high school cheer leading squad. there s a five month black hole. you don t find it interesting that the black hole starts right when obama launches the counter intelligence investigation in august and ends the day mueller is appointed? that s a really conspicuous time for that to occur. one by one. first the idea of the memo that nunes and his people put together on fisa and their concern. i have something that you should probably know by now. the democrats can t stop you from making it public. i don t know why this has taken so long. the president of the united states has power to classify and declassify. is there a process? yes. does he have to follow it?
so i think he is in a really highly activated and aroused state. the top white house lawyers say mueller will ultimately be good for trump because he won t find anything that directly implicates trump. i may be the only person who says this. but i have believed since the day mueller was appointed to the job, that he will be the end of the trump presidency and he will find indictable offenses. i don t know if they will be about russia. who knows? trump may or may not be able to insulate himself. but i know that he s had a career that spanned more than four decades. and during those four decades, there s an awful lot of behaviors and choices and actions that he s taken that are potentially criminal. tony schwartz, the co-author of the art of the deal. very interesting to get your take over this. coming up, why democrats are winning on health care. and why it might help them next year. stay with us.
