The Queen has been reported to be “devastated” by the news – a feeling with which anyone who has ever lost a pet will be familiar.

Cossette explains proposed two-tier rate increase for water district ratepayers

BILL PEARSON Edgecomb town hall. File photo Davis Island residents were notified last week when a proposed two-tiered Wiscasset Water District rate increase would occur. And on May 3, Superintendent Chris Cossette explained why. Cossette met with Edgecomb selectmen about the proposed increase and discussed other issues floating around regional water issues. On July 1, Edgecomb (Davis Island) ratepayers will see a 19% rate increase which covers additional hydrant rental fees. Cossette reported the annual hydrant rental rate would increase to $1,954.31 or $234 more. In 2022, the second rate increase would bring the fee to $2,579. Davis Island is the only portion of Edgecomb the Wiscasset Water District serves. 

Edgecomb school committee agrees to language, fiscal changes

JOSEPH CHARPENTIER Thu, 04/01/2021 - 7:45am Edgecomb school committee members voted unanimously March 30 to support new warrant items involving the proposed 2021-2022 budget. The amendments on additional local funds and language on unanticipated cost reserves were requested in an emergency Edgecomb selectmen’s meeting March 25 after it was learned Edgecomb’s school surplus would be about $460,000. Committee Vice Chair Heather Sinclair came to an understanding with selectmen March 25 on these changes, but said she did not want to agree without the rest of the board’s approval. Said Sinclair, “The select board (recommended) the warrant article that addresses the use of undesignated fund balance to reduce the tax burden on the town be increased by an additional $50,000 to a total of $250,000. The second warrant article, the one regarding developing a contingency fund, would also be supported by the selectboard with a couple of changes … reducing the total amount
