The announcement comes on the 20th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Sen. Wellstone, his wife Sheila, daughter Marcia and campaign aides Tom Lapic, Will McLaughlin, Mary McEvoy, and two pilots.

EVELETH, Minn. Almost 20 years after the plane crash that killed Paul and Sheila Wellstone, their son David, and local volunteers came out to restore portions of the memorial and paid their respects.
On October 25th, 2002, the plane that Paul, Sheila, their daughter, and three staff members were on crashed just before reaching the Eveleth airport.
The memorial site was established soon after, and all these years later, volunteers are still coming together to honor the Wellstone’s.
“That’s the emotional part for me is how strong those bonds are and how much people that love for my folks is still there, that’s huge for us, as a family,” David Wellstone, said.

It s been nearly 19 years since the crash that shook the political world, and left so many grieving. On Friday, new signs mark the site which honors the lives lost.
Members and leaders from the Iron Range Building Trades joined David Wellstone, son of late Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife, Sheila Wellstone, at a volunteer event to restore the Paul Wellstone Memorial and Historical Site.
David placed the last new sign. Please come check them out. They are beautiful. And they bring back what you remember and loved about Paul Wellstone. And if you didn t love him, it reminds you about what he stood for.
