Eight Candidates Named in the Final Phase of UAA Chancellor Search The UAA Chancellor Search Committee has recommended eight candidates to meet with the UAA and Anchorage community in the final phase of its search for the next UAA Chancellor. The eight leaders were chosen from a pool of diverse and highly qualified candidates and include three Alaskans and five university leaders from outside of Alaska. The eight candidates are: Deena Bishop, Ed.D., Superintendent of the Anchorage School District [2016-Present], former Superintendent of the Mat-Su School District [2011-2016] Pearl Brower, Ph.D., former President, Iḷisaġvik College [2012-2020], Dean of Students and Institutional Development, Iḷisaġvik College [2007-2012]

Sean Parnell and former Iḷisaġvik College President Pearl Brower are among eight candidates selected by a University of Alaska Anchorage search committee as finalists to become UAA’s next chancellor. The change in leadership comes following former UAA Chancellor Cathy Sandeen’s 2020 departure from the university. She served just over two years in the position. Bruce Schultz is serving as UAA’s interim chancellor until a replacement is secured. Schultz previously served as UAA’s Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. The other five contenders for UAA chancellor are from universities outside of the state, including Satasha Green-Stephen, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, and Angappa Gunasekaran, dean of the school of business and public administration at California State University in Bakersfield.
