Sen. David Miramant: LD 1411 Is Giving Working Mainers a Fair Shot
by State Senator Dave Miramant Tuesday, June 1, 2021 1:37 PM Maine State Senator David Miramant
David Miramant represents Maine Senate District 12, which includes most of Knox County. No matter the circumstances, one thing will always be true: Maine depends on small businesses, and small businesses depend on Maine. With close to 99% of Maine businesses categorized as small, small businesses are central to our economy and our success. We should do everything we can to ensure their survival. Yet, we’ve seen more and more manufacturing jobs go overseas, and more and more contracts go out of state. For those reasons, I want to talk with you about LD 1411. This bill, “An Act To Establish the Maine Buy American and Build Maine Act,” puts emphasis on Maine businesses and gives preference to the hardworking people here in Maine.

Along with many other Americans I have recently been awakened to become more involve in our democracy, but I see that our democracy has been effectively stifled by the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife committee in the Legislature.
L.D. 1265, An Act to Control the Means of Killing Coyotes, was the result of more than a year’s efforts of the Maine people who want to mitigate the violence in the killing of coyotes here in Maine. This is because the killing of coyotes has turned into a free for all, a blood bath for our wild native dogs.
AUGUSTA Senator David Miramant, D-Camden, introduced a bill this week for Maine to adopt the National Popular Vote Compact.
LD 1330, “An Act To Join the National Popular Vote Compact,” was the subject of a public hearing before the Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee.
“Democracy starts with the people,” said Sen. Miramant. “The National Popular Vote Compact returns the power to the people when it comes to presidential elections. The person who wins the most votes in our country should win the election. By adopting the National Popular Vote Compact, Maine will be leading the way for other states to give people more voice in electing their president. This bill would allow for more accountability to the people.”
