AUGUSTA The Senate has voted to enact and fund a bill from Senator Chip Curry, D-Belfast, and have sent the bill to Governor Janet Mills.
LD 1517, “An Act To Establish the Maine Workforce, Research, Development and Student Achievement Institute,” received a bipartisan, unanimous support.
“Workforce development is one of my top priorities,” said Sen. Curry. “Here in Waldo County, we know that economic advancement is one of the biggest hurdles so many of us face. By establishing the Maine Workforce, Research, Development and Student Achievement Institute, we’re going to really focus on having meaningful solutions to help our workers and businesses. I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues to get this program funded and turned into law.”

Sen. David Miramant: LD 1411 Is Giving Working Mainers a Fair Shot
by State Senator Dave Miramant Tuesday, June 1, 2021 1:37 PM Maine State Senator David Miramant
David Miramant represents Maine Senate District 12, which includes most of Knox County. No matter the circumstances, one thing will always be true: Maine depends on small businesses, and small businesses depend on Maine. With close to 99% of Maine businesses categorized as small, small businesses are central to our economy and our success. We should do everything we can to ensure their survival. Yet, we’ve seen more and more manufacturing jobs go overseas, and more and more contracts go out of state. For those reasons, I want to talk with you about LD 1411. This bill, “An Act To Establish the Maine Buy American and Build Maine Act,” puts emphasis on Maine businesses and gives preference to the hardworking people here in Maine.
From Augusta – Buy American, build Maine

While growing up in a blue-collar community with a strong union presence, “Made in America” was a label that was commonplace in most stores and on most products. Making a purchase with that label gave us a sense of pride in the fact that you were supporting a neighbor while getting what you paid for.
Somewhere along the line, that label became harder to find. If you are like me, you would like to see this trend reversed. That is why earlier this month, I proudly cosponsored a bill from Senate President Troy Jackson, LD 1411, “An Act To Establish the Maine Buy American and Build Maine Act.”
