Humanitarian organizations are seeking US$617 million to assist 4 million people among them. Chad continues to be affected by chronic underfunding, while the population requiring humanitarian assistance has increased. So far, only 8 per cent of the required funding has been secured. Needs are being driven up by three concurrent humanitarian crises: a malnutrition and food insecurity crisis, a health emergency, and a displacement crisis driven by armed conflicts and natural disasters.

DRC: UN Chief Condemns Deadly Attacks On Displaced People

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to investigate recent deadly attacks by insurgents in the east and bring the perpetrators to account. Guterres, has strongly condemned the attacks, according to a statement issued by his Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric. “The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a swift recovery to the injured. “He calls on the Congolese authorities to investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice,” the statement said. At least 55 people were killed, and many others wounded, in the overnight assaults on Monday, which targeted camps hosting internally displaced people near the towns of Boga in Irumu territory, Ituri province, and Tchabi, North Kivu province.
