As of Tuesday, there were 61 cases of monkeypox in Cuyahoga County, the majority affecting gay or bisexual men who live in the city of Cleveland, health officials said Wednesday during a press conference.
Early in the monkeypox pandemic public health officials were cautious when discussing how the disease that was spreading among gay men. Now some LGBTQ+ advocates say the delay in addressing the reality of the outbreak denied them the information needed to protect themselves and stop the spread of the virus.
