The Buffalo City Surf Riders have returned home champions after winning the top spot at the Tidy Town’s SA Champs at St Michael’s Beach in KwaZulu-Natal last week. Placing first in the open and third in the master’s divisions, the overall points tally meant the team came out on top, beating clubs from all seven provinces for the President’s and Champion cups.
Surfing per say is not hard. If you ask Josh Malherbe, the Under 14 boys champion from last weekend’s Border Buffalo City Closed Championships, he will likely tell you it is easy.
By the time this report hits the streets Border Buffalo City will be well down the track in the defence of their 14 SA champions’ status. Ever since the Masters surfing championships began 14 years ago, no other province has managed to wrestle the trophy away from our golden oldies. That is if surfers over the age of 35 can be regarded as golden oldies.
Cute does not come in much smaller packages than nine-year-old Maya Malherbe. If you do not go “Awwww!” when you see this tiny bundle of hair and legs trotting down to the water with a surfboard, then being a parent is not for you. This adorable young lady is the perfect description of a happy gromit and indeed a pretty one at that.
