The 70-year-old died at his home in Robertson after suffering a long illness, his wife Skye and sons Harry and Ben released in a statement on Tuesday. David passed away at Mulberry Farm, Robertson, after a long illness this morning. He was surrounded by his loving family. David was the eldest son of Ron and Joyce, brother of Stuart and Ian and uncle to nine nieces and nephews, and great uncle to four great nieces and nephews.

One of Australian television s most renowned executives, David Leckie, has died aged 70.
Mr Leckie led Nine from 1990-2001, before taking on the role of CEO at Seven, which he held until 2010.
He was CEO of Seven West Media until 2012, before taking on an adviser role.
He left the company in 2016.

Australian television legend David Leckie has died, aged 70, at his home near Robertson in the NSW Southern Highlands.
Leckie led the Nine Network from 1990 to 2001. He was CEO of Seven until 2010, then of Seven West Media until 2012 and was then an adviser before leaving the company in 2016.
His wife Skye and sons Harry and Ben issued a statement on behalf of the family this morning.
“With immense sadness we advise the passing of our adored and much loved husband and father, David Leckie,” the statement read.
“David passed away at Mulberry Farm, Robertson after a long illness this morning. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Before Seven, he led the Nine Network from 1990 to 2001.
Nine CEO Mike Sneesby said Leckie had set a âculture of excellenceâ for the company.
âDavid Leckie was a giant of television,â he said in a statement.
âHe contributed enormously to the success we all shared with him here at Nine, his instincts and leadership heralded the golden era of Australian television.â
Tributes for the media personality flowed online.
Retired political journalist Laurie Oakes tweeted that Leckie was a âterrific CEOâ.
âBacked me when there was pressure, even from [media tycoon] Kerry Packer,â he wrote.

Legendary Australian TV executive David Leckie, who ran both Seven and Nine networks, has died aged 70.
He died at Mulberry Farm, Robertson after a long illness this morning, surrounded by family.
“David was the eldest son of Ron and Joyce (deceased) Leckie, brother of Stuart and Ian Leckie, and uncle to nine nieces and nephews and great uncle to four great-nieces and great- nephews,” family said in a statement.
Leckie was a titan in the Australian television industry, with an executive career spanning 40 years from 1977 to 2017.
He joined GTV-9 as a sales executive, was promoted to National Sales Manager, then Nine Network Sales Director in 1982 at TCN-9. In August 1990, he became Managing Director of the Nine Network and CEO from 1994 to 2001.
