WASHINGTON Hundreds of people stood outside the U.S. Capitol on Sunday wearing blue hats that said #NoFear as they called for unity among Jewish people and their allies to stand against a rising number of antisemitic incidents across the country.
The event, called No Fear: A Rally In Solidarity with the Jewish People, drew speakers including Elisha Wiesel, a business executive and son of Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, and Meghan McCain, a daughter of the late GOP senator John McCain of Arizona. Many attendees held Israeli flags as they stood in the heat.
The county mandate requires people wear masks inside businesses, government buildings, and public places where social distancing in accordance with CDC guidelines is not possible or not being practiced. It also applies to Palm Tran buses.
Commissioners asked County Administrator Verdenia Baker on Tuesday to come up with changes but none had been issued as of late afternoon. Baker could not be reached for comment.
When going outdoors, such as to a park or picnic with friends, President Joe Biden said Tuesday, “You can do it without a mask. … The odds of getting or giving the virus to others is very very low if you’ve both been vaccinated.”
