Perhaps the biggest safety recommendation, the safety action that metro is taking has to do with the ability of the train operator simply to cut off the vents that bring in outside air into the train. Now action a week ago monday when the train operator hit heavy smoke from an arcing electric fire near the tunnel at lenfant, he had to call the control center for permission to cut off the events that were bringing that smoke from the tunnel into the train leaving hundreds of people gasping for air. Metro has now rewritten its standard operating procedures. So now the minute the train stops, any train stops for smoke, the operator is instructed to shut off the air intake. Metro has also worked with d. C. Fire and adjusted the configuration where metros antennas intersect with d. C. Fire
